I bought this for Craig as he likes WW2 books. He read it and recommended it, but it's not my kind of book so it sat on the side. I picked it up the other night and started browsing - I couldn't put it down (it's a short book, I read it in about 2 hours) It's the story of the nine year old son of a German commandant living in Berlin in 1942, I won't say too much more because it would give it away. I'm not sure if it is a child or adult book (I got it in the adult section), it's written simply but not patronisingly. Dee if any of your boys are studying WW2 in school I'd recommend it

That sounds quite interesting Kim, I might have a read of that myself, is it a new out book or is it quite old?

My mum lent me a book last week called Betrayed which is based on a true story about a little girl who changes from a loving girl to a monster, pinching from people and accusing her parents of sexual abuse etc. But as the story goes on you soon realise there is a lot more to this than first thought. It is a good book, but from around chapter 9 I had guessed the ending of the book. My mum did also, but never the less it's still a good read.

Sounds interesting Caz but I can't stand books that are about cruelty to kids, like a boy called it etc, they make me too sad Is it like that?

It doesn't involve cruelty to the little girl, its more sinister than that. It's the girls mothers best friend who is having everyone believe its the little girl who is this evil monster, but its actually her that is setting the little girl up by planting things in her bedroom, and putting razor blades in peoples coat pockets, and writing notes saying she is being abused. She's a nasty piece of work. Sounds interesting Caz but I can't stand books that are about cruelty to kids, like a boy called it etc, they make me too sad Is it like that?

lol Well yeah as it turned out the mums friend was a bit of a fantasist and jealous that her friend had 2 good kids, unlike hers, but it was so cruel what the 6 year old girl had to go through, and she was accused of doing horrible things to people, even by her mums friend, when all along it was her. But like I said, I worked out that it was her quite early on. The woman got a prison sentence for it though. lol I put the first half of the story in a spoiler and the second half without. Oops never mind. ;D I had to click the spoiler Caz!! Is that the ending? ;D

Just finished reading it. It was a good book, very sad too. You can't imagine the lives of the people in those camps. I kind of knew that was gonna happen to Bruno though, at first I thought it would just happen to Shmuel but when Bruno went over I thought that he would say something just before it happened but he never got the chance . I guessed straight away what "the Fury" meant but it took me a while to realise what "out-with" meant.

Very thought provoking book though - makes you count your blessings.
